News broke this week that Jake Paul’s team is now actively looking for a replacement opponent after Gervonta Davis was accused of battery and kidnapping.
The exhibition event was set for November 14 in Miami, Florida, and would have featured the pair clashing in a main event despite an extreme difference in size. ‘Tank’ Davis’ latest issues outside the ropes – one in a long list – have led Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, to launch an investigation and explore options, as confirmed by a press release.
“Most Valuable Promotions immediately initiated an investigation upon learning of the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis in Miami-Dade County on October 30, 2025. At this time, we are gathering information and reviewing the details to ensure any decision we make is thoroughly vetted.
“We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved. We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further.”
Reports suggest that the Netflix event could now be postponed, perhaps only for a month, and fighter who have been contacted to potentially replace Davis include Ryan Garcia and Edgar Berlanga. Another target is Anthony Joshua, who was in talks to face the 28-year-old from Ohio earlier this year.
Speaking to IFL TV, promoter Eddie Hearn was asked what Joshua, a two-time unified heavyweight champion, said when presented with the idea. He responded:
“Just let me know where.”
Despite the willingness on his fighter’s part, Hearn said that ‘many things must fall into place’ for it to progress, and confirmed this it was only conversations so far rather than a contract or formal offer.
Joshua, regardless of how this plays out, is not expected to return before the year is out.
