Carl Froch still doesn’t believe that Anthony Joshua will be stepping into the ring with Jake Paul.
This controversial but undeniable huge contest is due to take place on 19 December, live on Netflix. It is a professional bout with 10 oz gloves and is scheduled for eight rounds despite the considerable difference in size, weight and experience of both men.
Although Paul has fought increasingly worthy opponents over his 13-fight career, he has still never shared the ring with anyone of the quality of former two-time unified world champion and knockout artist ‘AJ.’
Joshua will be looking to get the fight ended quickly and move on to more legitimate contests next year, having lost in dramatic KO fashion himself last time out back in September 2024 when he was stopped by then IBF-ruler Daniel Dubois.
Speaking to Fight Lens, former super-middleweight world champion Froch repeated his belief that this fight cannot happen.
“I still don’t believe the AJ Jake Paul fight is happening. I’ve got flights booked but I still don’t believe it is happening. Hence why I’ve not paid for the flights. Someone else has, but someone thinks it’s happening. I’m going out there and I’m just intrigued.
“What is going to happen? It’s a sanctioned fight. It can’t be fixed, that would be a federal crime. Because it is not an exhibition, there can’t be an agreement, that would be illegal, this would have be a proper fight. Every single boxing fan knows that ifAJ goes in with Jake Paul and tries, the fight won’t last a minute.”
Many people point to Joshua’s two-round demolition of UFC champion turned boxing novice Francis Ngannou as a way this could and should play out.
