Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder has been touted for a number of years.

The two heavyweights have been linked with one another for nearly a decade, ever since they both held versions of the world heavyweight title.

Wilder first became WBC heavyweight champion in January 2015, with ‘AJ’ winning the IBF title just over a year later. Since that time, there have been multiple callouts from each side, but a fight has yet to ever materialise.

It finally looked like they could meet last year, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ suffered back-to-back defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, seemingly ending any chance of ever seeing the bout.

The fight has been given a lifeline over the past week, after Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed it could still take place due to ‘AJ’ potentially needing to look elsewhere for his next opponent after the retirement of long-time rival Tyson Fury.

One man who has sparred both Joshua and Wilder is heavyweight Joey Dawejko, and despite the recent form of Wilder, he told World Boxing News that he would still back the American to be victorious.

“Deontay Wilder would beat Anthony Joshua only because of his punching power, and Joshua gets hit.”

“Joshua’s chin is a little suspect. I always thought Wilder would win. I honestly think it’s an intriguing fight, still. Even though they’re a little past it now, I still love that fight.”

Wilder isn’t the only name being linked with ‘AJ’ following the retirement of Fury, with Martin Bakole also a potential.
