Anthony Joshua continues to build towards his next fight.
The former two-time unified world heavyweight champion has been out of action for more than 12 months now. His last time in the ring was September 2024, when he was knocked down early and then stopped inside five rounds by then IBF ruler Daniel Dubois.
Since then, he has been out recovering from an elbow injury but is now looking to get back to action sooner rather than later, with his promoter saying it will likely be in early 2026 but could be by the end of the year.
One man who has emerged in the last few days as a potential opponent is Jake Paul, whose fight with Gervonta Davis has been canned late in the day following domestic allegations against Davis.
Speaking to iFL TV. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he had been having conversations with Paul’s team and was asked what Joshua’s reaction to that was.
“‘Just let me know where and when’.
We don’t get too excited, because we don’t know what’s real and what’s and what’s not for real. But as I told you, if you want ‘AJ’ to end this, sign the contract.”
He was asked if he had been presented with a contract.
“No, no, nothing like that. There has been a conversation, that’s all. We will potentially continue those conversations, or maybe not.”
Paul fighting Joshua would seem like a huge mismatch but also a huge draw for the broadcasters, though fans would likely rather Joshua fought the likes of his long-time British rival Tyson Fury before both men hang up their gloves for good.
