Juan Manuel Marquez Has No Doubt Who Wins Canelo vs Terence Crawford: “That’s The Difference”

Terence Crawford has made it clear his goal is to face super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

The fight had a boost when Turki Alalshikh threw his financial backing behind it, but after a public back and forth between himself and Canelo the chances of it happening took a hit.

One man who will be pleased if it doesn’t materialise is former three weight world champion Juan Manuel Márquez. In an interview with Fight Hub TV Márquez believes the weight advantage for Canelo will be too big come fight night.

“I think it’s no good Terence Crawford looking for the fight with Canelo, because Canelo is bigger than him, three divisions, right now two as Crawford fought at 154, so two divisions but I think the experience and the power, the weight is an advantage for Canelo. I think Crawford is a good fighter, you are the best in your division but when you go to fight in another division maybe you lose the fight because you lose the power if you go up to another division.

I think Crawford is a good fighter but 168lbs is too big for him. That’s 168 on the scale, what happens the next day when Canelo makes more weight, maybe 20lbs, Canelo will be fighting at 185, and Crawford maybe 168, 170, this is the difference, who has the power? Canelo. It would be a good fight but I don’t think it’s good for Crawford. for me I don’t like to see the fight.”

Márquez compared it to when Canelo faced Amir Khan who got the better of the exchanges early on but ultimately suffered defeat by a devastating knockout in the sixth round.

Did you see the fight with Canelo against Amir Khan, Khan used his speed and moved around the ring and then Canelo knocked him out with one punch. 154 is good for him but 168 I don’t like, for legacy it’s no good for Crawford.

Finally Márquez gave his definitive prediction and advised Crawford not to go any higher than super-welterweight.

I don’t think Crawford can beat him, he’s a good fighter but it’s not his weight, he needs to make the fights at his natural weight, no more weight classes after 154 for him.

Crawford has been linked with a clash against Vergil Ortiz next, but Alalshikh expects ‘Bud’ to reject the offer as he believes the 36-year-old will only fight again if Canelo is the opponent.
