It appears that Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez will do battle in early 2026.
Stevenson is the current WBC lightweight champion, but looks set to be heading up to 140lbs to challenge Lopez for his WBO super-lightweight title.
It brings together two of the biggest stars in the sport, and there have been many differing opinions shared from the boxing world about how the fight could play out.
One of them has come from former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah, who was also a unified champion at 140lbs during his career.
Speaking to MillCity Boxing, Judah believes that if the bout does indeed go ahead, it will be a dominant victory for Stevenson.
“[Shakur] will dismantle him. I said this a long time ago. Teo’s a good fighter, but the type of style he possesses, he’s gonna break him up. You can’t beat what you can’t hit. That s**t is impossible. That boy ain’t nothing to f**k around with. He’s something out of the Matrix part three. I’m loving him.
“I always spoke highly of [Shakur]. He’s from Newark, I’ve known him since a kid, his grandaddy. They solid people. He comes from good stock. What can I say man? He ain’t got no kind of mental issues. He’s right there. He’s on you. On break down, destruction mode.”
While the clash between Stevenson and Lopez looks to be on the verge of being officially confirmed, Stevenson has recently named the other reigning world champion that he no longer has any plans to ever take on.
