Boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez has had his say on the upcoming showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
The pound-for-pound stars are set to clash in September, with Canelo putting his unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles on the line against the undefeated 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska.
Many prominent figures in the sport have had their say on the mega-fight, including three-weight world champion and Mexican icon Chavez.
Speaking to ESNEWS, the 62-year-old predicts a comprehensive victory for his countryman Canelo, backing him to ‘knock out’ Crawford.
“Canelo will knock him out in six or seven rounds.
Crawford is good fighter but there’s weight classes.”
It is a challenge of the highest magnitude for ‘Bud’ Crawford, who will be making the jump up to 168lbs as he bids to make even more history for himself by becoming a five-division world champion.
Canelo has been a dominant force in the super middleweight division since he became the undisputed champion back in 2021 with a victory over Caleb Plant. He made successful defences of his crown against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia but was subsequently stripped of his IBF belt last summer after he refused to face mandatory challenger William Scull.
Crawford became a four-weight world champion last August after he beat WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles, albeit in an underwhelming performance. Canelo’s former promoter Eddie Hearn recently spoke out and claimed the 37-year-old might be making the wrong decision in facing the Mexican superstar, who is the naturally bigger man out of the two.
