Julio Cesar Chavez Sr is often regarded as one of the greatest fighters to have ever laced up the gloves.
The Mexican icon fought on no less than 115 occasions during his storied professional career, which spanned for 25 years between 1980 and 2005.
He captured multiple world titles across three weight classes and shared the ring with an abundance of generational greats throughout his tenure, including Pernell Whitaker, Hector Camacho, Oscar De La Hoya and Meldrick Taylor.
Chavez remained unbeaten for the first 89 fights of his career, suffering his first ever defeat against Frankie Randall in January of 1994, although he would avenge this loss in their rematch just four months later to re-capture the WBC world light-welterweight title.
After sharing the ring with a number of heavy-hitters during his tenure, Chavez once revealed in an interview with The Ring Magazine that Edwin Rosario was the hardest puncher he ever crossed paths with.
“Anywhere he hit me it hurt. Frankie Randall was also a hard puncher. [Against Rosario] it was my youth, it was the fact I was in my prime, it all helped me get through that fight.”
Chavez faced Rosario in November 1987, stopping the late-great Puerto Rican in the penultimate round of their bout at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rosario would go on to re-claim the WBA crown at 135lbs a couple of years later when he stopped Anthony Jones in the sixth round of their clash.
The Puerto Rican tragically passed away at 34-years-old in 1997, although he was posthumously inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006.
