Mexican great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr has weighed in on Canelo’s upcoming showdown with Terence Crawford.
After months of speculation, it was announced last week that the pound-for-pound superstars will do battle at an undisclosed location in Las Vegas on Saturday September 13.
Canelo is set to defend his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’, as he begins his second reign as champion following a points victory over William Scull in Riyadh on May 2.
Chavez Sr is the latest all-time-great to have their say on the upcoming mega-fight between two of the biggest names in the sport, and the Mexican icon has made no mistake in predicting what he believes the outcome will be.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Chavez backed his countryman to get the job done against Crawford inside the scheduled distance, claiming he will ‘knock him out’ during the middle rounds.
“Canelo will knock him out in six or seven rounds. Crawford is a good fighter but there’s weight classes [for a reason].”
‘Bud’ is making the jump up in two weight classes ahead of his historic match-up with Canelo, with many left wondering whether the 37-year-old is taking too big of a risk against the Mexican great.
History beckons for Crawford however, as a victory would see the unbeaten American become a three weight undisputed champion and the first fighter in the history of male boxing to accomplish this exceptional feat, having already achieved undisputed status at super-lightweight and welterweight since his debut back in 2008.
