Jake Paul makes his long-awaited return to the ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in just one month.
The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio last appeared in November when he outpointed the legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson in an eight round professional contest at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Paul is now gearing up to face former WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim on June 28. Chavez has had 61 professional bouts since making his debut back in 2003 and could prove to be the toughest test of Paul’s career to date.
One man who has previewed the intriguing cruiserweight showdown is boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, who has weighed in on his sons chances of defeating Paul and becoming just the second fighter to do so.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Chavez Sr predicts his son can be victorious as long as he goes into the contest focused but praised Paul for being ‘a strong fighter’.
“I think everyone has a second chance in life. My son has had it really tough in the past but I have never seen him so focused as he is going in to this fight. If he goes in that focused, there is no doubt in my mind that he beats Jake Paul.
Any fighter has a chance going into a fight. Jake Paul is a strong fighter, he hits hard, he’s young, and he does have an opportunity going into this fight but I believe my son will get the job done.”
His showdown with Chavez will be the 13th of Paul’s career, as he sets his sights on defying the odds and becoming a legitimate world champion in the near future.
