Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor has revealed exactly when she plans to draw the curtain on her outstanding professional career.

The 39-year-old from Bray is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters of her generation, although it is no secret that she has entered the final chapter of her tenure.

Taylor remains one of just five fighters in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in two weight classes within the four belt era, something she has achieved at lightweight and super-lightweight respectively.

She was last in action back in July when she produced a third victory over Amanda Serrano at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City to bring an end to their memorable rivalry.

Whilst fans of Taylor will be disappointed that the Irish great is approaching the end of her boxing career, the 39-year-old has been an incredible servant to the sport and has planned to go out in style later this year.

Speaking to RTE Sport this week, Taylor confirmed that she is planning on having one final bout in Dublin this summer before she announces her retirement from boxing.

“We’re still trying to figure the details out but I do have one more fight this year. It’s kind of like my retirement fight. It has been an amazing journey, the whole lot of it, over these last 20 years. I have had highs and low.

“It has been an incredible, remarkable career and I always wanted to end it here in Ireland. I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career. Obviously we’re still hoping for Croke Park, we’re hanging on to a bit of hope that it can happen. If it doesn’t happen there are plenty of options there.”

Despite being so proud of her Irish heritage, Taylor has had the fortune of fighting in her homeland on just two occasions during her career. The first of which came when she was beaten by Chantelle Cameron In May 2023.

Taylor got her revenge over Cameron just six months later however as she defeated the two-weight world champion via majority decision to capture the undisputed super-lightweight championship at the 3Arena in Dublin.

The Irish great will look to go out on a high when she makes the final appearance of her decorated career this summer, with reports suggesting that her retirement bout will take place in either July or August with full details expected to be released in due course.
