Talk continues around the chance of a mega fight between pound-for-pound greats Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
Though both are now towards the latter stages of their careers, Crawford and Canelo are still two of the best fighters on the planet after accomplished campaigns.
Crawford is a two-weight undisputed champion having cleaned out both the super-lightweight and welterweight divisions in his time in the sport.
Most recently, the unbeaten American switch-hitter became a champion in another weight class when he stepped up to 154lbs and beat Israil Madrimov on points last summer.
Meanwhile Canelo has only ever lost twice, once to Floyd Mayweather and once to Dmitry Bivol up at light heavyweight.
He has also won world titles in the super-welterweight, middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions and has been undisputed at super middleweight, beating the likes of Miguel Cotto, Danny Jacobs, Amir Khan and Gennady Golovkin along the way.
Former welterweight ruler Kell Brook is one of the victims of Crawford and speaking to Boxing News he was asked how a fight between these two stars might unfold.
“It’s a hard fight. Canelo is a bigger man but listen look at Terence Crawford. Look what he did to Spence, look at his career, he’s pound-for-pound number one or he’s right up there. Two unbelievable talents. Crawford is like a surgeon.
“When I boxed him we were both waiting to see who threw first in the early rounds, he’s very pin-point, he’s got it all. But so has Canelo. He’s proven it time and time with top fighters in the world. It’s a hard one. One I’d definitely be interested in seeing.”
When pushed, Brook – who lost to Crawford by fourth round stoppage in 2020 – slightly favoured the bigger man.
“I’d have to lean to Canelo.”
Various reports suggest that the fight has been agreed for this coming September, with both men eligible for contests in the interim, though no official announcement has been made.
