Mikkel Kessler shared the ring with both Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe during his illustrious career.
Kessler first became world champion back in 2004, going on to unify the division before then losing his belts when he was defeated by Calzaghe by unanimous decision in 2007.
Kessler then took on Froch for the first time in April 2010, winning by unanimous decision, before ‘The Cobra’ won their rematch on points three years later, in what turned out to be the final fight of Kessler’s professional career.
One fight that boxing fans never got to see was Froch take on Calzaghe, despite the two men being fierce rivals for a number of years.
Kessler is one of just a few fighters that took on both Froch and Calzaghe, and he told The Daily Mail how he envisaged a fight between the two Brits going.
“It is difficult to say who is best. Joe was not a puncher – he was fast but he was hitting with the inside of his glove but he got the points when they landed. He was mentally strong. He was in very good shape all the time.
“Carl is more of a fighter and throws lots of punches one after the other. He wants to trade punches. If Carl was in there throwing his big punches and his uppercuts then he would have hurt Joe. Who would win out of those two? I would think Calzaghe. Maybe.”
Kessler isn’t the only big name to predict the clash, with former Calzaghe foe Chris Eubank Sr also offering his prediction.
