Newly-crowned world champion Keyshawn Davis may be hopeful of securing a future unification clash against Gervonta Davis.
Keyshawn Davis is the latest world title-holder at 135lbs after he knocked out Denys Berinchyk inside four rounds to capture the WBO lightweight title in February.
A few weeks later, his namesake Gervonta Davis was in action, as he defended his WBA lightweight crown against Lamont Roach, in a fight that many fans expected ‘Tank’ to win with ease.
It didn’t transpire that way though, as Davis was pushed all the way by Roach, leading to a controversial moment in the ninth round where the reigning champion opted to take a knee, but no knockdown was scored by the referee.
That moment played a major role in the outcome of the fight, as it ended in a majority decision draw, with scores of 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, meaning a 10-8 round for the challenger would have been enough to see him become the new WBA lightweight champion.
The performance of ‘Tank’ led to some question marks about his ability, and Keyshawn has now given his take to The Porter Way Podcast on whether or not he feels his lightweight rival was exposed.
“I don’t think he got exposed. I just think Lamont was better than everyone expected him to be. Lamont can really fight. I said that I thought Tank would knock him out so he proved me wrong. Lamont is better than we made him out to be but I don’t think Tank got exposed or nothing like that.”
A rematch between ‘Tank’ and Roach is expected to take place this summer, while Keyshawn has been linked to a title defence against Edwin De Los Santos.
