Keyshawn Davis recently saw his momentum come to a screeching halt after a series of self-inflicted setbacks both inside and outside the ring.

Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) was scheduled to defend his WBO Lightweight World title against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.

However, the bout was officially scrapped after the American came in a shocking 4.3 pounds over the 135lb limit. As a result, Davis was stripped of his title, and De Los Santos was left without an opponent and title challenge. Promoter Bob Arum did not mince his words post-weigh-in, calling the situation ‘very disappointing.’

Following the undercard bout in which Davis’s brother, Kelvin, suffered a decision loss to Nahir Albright, an altercation broke out backstage. Multiple witnesses reported that Keyshawn Davis and his other brother, Keon Davis, were involved in a physical confrontation with Albright.

Footage circulating online appeared to show punches thrown, with event security and police eventually stepping in to diffuse the chaos. Albright later alleged he was ‘jumped’ in a post-fight interview, and DAZN officials were seen reviewing the incident.

With the missed weight, title stripping, and now possible disciplinary actions looming, Davis – who was on his way to superstardom in the sport – has taken a significant reputational hit. He has now sent a message to fans weeks after the events.

“For these past few weeks I’ve reflected over my actions and I apologize to everyone that I’ve affected. I let my supporters down, especially the youth that looked up to me. I will set a better example. Thanks to everyone that’s still checking up on me.”

Outside of the apology, ‘The Businessman’ ended with:

“And in the end the truth will reveal itself.”

He will now move up to super-lightweight.
