Newly-crowned WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis has had his say on a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson.

The 25-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia dethroned Ukraine’s Denis Berinchyk to become WBO champion at 135lbs on February 15, putting on an impressive performance to stop the 36-year-old in the fourth round of their bout in New York City.

Davis has now secured his seat at the top table of the lightweight division, sitting alongside the likes of WBA champion ‘Tank’ Davis, WBC champion Stevenson and IBF champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.

‘The Businessman’ has enjoyed a bright start to his tenure, where he has also had the opportunity to spar division rivals ‘Tank’ and Stevenson, who have both been linked with a potential showdown against eachother.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Davis assessed the potential fight between his former sparring partners, where he predicts a comprehensive win for WBC champion and close friend Stevenson.

“I think Shakur will win, I think Shakur got better skill. And of course he’s just better defensively. I’m always going with the better skill and the better defensive fighter.

Tank’s skill is phenomenal but I just feel like he’s offensive first. I feel like Tank is the type of fighter where he’ll either be offensive first or he’s very patient and then just try to catch you slipping, you know what I’m saying?”

Stevenson returns to the ring this weekend as he makes the second defence of his WBC title against the UK’s Josh Padley, initially set to be American prospect Floyd Schofield before he pulled out unwell. ‘Tank’s next world title defence is due to take place against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1.

Victories for both fighters could finally set up that highly anticipated showdown, which is being dubbed as one of the biggest fights in boxing.
