Amir Khan thinks he knows who would beat a prime Roy Jones Jr.
The American is widely regarded as one of the best of his era and an all-time great for what he achieved in the ring, including multiple world championships in four weight classes – middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.
He was the first man in history to win a title in the middleweight division, then go on to rule the banner division and is often talked about as an all-time pound-for-pound great.
Jones’ last fight was in 2023 when he lost on points to Anthony Pettis and he has also had an exhibition with Mike Tyson back in 2020, with the contest being ruled a draw.
In a round of winner stays on with Mail Sport Boxing, Khan was asked who would come out on top if Roy Jones Jr was matched against the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard, and he went with Sugar Ray Leonard.
‘Sugar’ is one of boxing’s greatest champions and is recognised for his quick footwork, sharp combinations, and ring intelligence. After turning professional in 1977 following Olympic gold in 1976, he quickly rose to the top with a great mix of speed, skill and charisma.
Leonard won world titles in five weight classes from welterweight and junior middleweight up to middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight. His classic bouts against Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler defined boxing’s golden era of the 1980s.
Leonard retired with a record of 36 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, cementing his legendary status.
