Amir Khan has a clear opinion on who is the best boxer to have ever laced up the gloves.
For many years, Khan was one of the most exciting boxers on the planet. He famously had endless courage in the ring and never shied away from a challenge, including moving up through the weights to face huge punchers like Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and soon-to-be multi-weight undisputed champion like Terence Crawford.
He also had legendary battles with the likes of Marco Maidana and beat top names like Devon Alexander and Luis Collazo.
The Bolton man started boxing young and won a silver medal at the Olympics aged just 17 in 2004 before becoming one of the youngest Brits to ever win a world title when he picked up the WBA super-lightweight belt aged just 22.
When asked by TNT Sports Boxing to name the greatest ever fighter, Khan opted for Muhammad Ali.
“Muhammad Ali is the greatest fighter in the world in my opinion because of what he did in the ring and outside the boxing ring. He was not only a great champion but the people’s champion more than anything.”
Ali is a popular choice not only as the greatest boxer to have ever lived, but also one of the most celebrated sportspeople of all time.
He transcends the sport thanks to his Civil Rights activism and refusal to be drafted to the Vietnam War, as well as being one of the most athletic heavyweights the sport has ever seen and an undisputed heavyweight champion from 1974 to 1978.
