Amir Khan has battled back from defeat before, so he is well placed to offer some advice for Moses Itauma following his upset loss to Filip Hrgovic.
In what was a hugely entertaining fight, Itauma showed plenty of the fast hands and accurate punching that have made him one of the most highly touted boxers in the world.
However, at just 21 years old and in his maiden world title fight, he also showed some inexperience by winning rounds too convincingly and emptying his tank without inflicting enough damage to actually stop Hrgovic.
That meant that by the ninth round, he was out on his feet through exhaustion, and the referee had to step in and stop the fight, despite Itauma not having lost a round up to that point.
Speaking to Boxing King Media, Khan, who suffered a shock knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, shared what he thinks will be the best move from here for Itauma if he is to rebuild stronger, while Frank Warren also has his own advice.
“Frank is one of the best promoters out there, Frank put me straight back in. You have to get straight back in there, the demons are going to be there. You can’t take too much time out because the more comfortable you get having that time out, it’s going to keep eating you away and you might even call it a day from the boxing.
“I went straight back in, I went straight back into training camp, made some changes, went to Freddie Roach, out of my comfort zone, went to America, away from my friends, family, everyone, and I was focussed. I was with Freddie Roach who would not take any s**t.”
Itauma was taken to hospital following the rift but has now returned home and has already vowed to return stronger, while Hrgovic will defend his IBF crown against mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez.
