Promoter Don King once revealed the greatest fighter that he has ever worked with during his 50-year career in boxing.
King began his promotional career back in 1972 where he would later establish Don King Productions, a company that has promoted over 500 world title fights since it was founded in 1974.
The 94-year-old from Ohio played a key role in the career of legendary heavyweight Muhammad Ali, going on to promote ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’ in 1974, as well as the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ one year later.
King has also promoted a number of other all-time-greats during his tenure, including the likes of Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr and Roy Jones Jr amongst many others.
In an interview with CNN, King didn’t hesitate to reveal Ali as the one fighter that stands out from the rest, brandishing the late-great boxing icon as ‘the greatest of all time’.
“Muhammad Ali was a man of the people, he was a fighter for the people. He represents what every athlete and sports person in life will try to do – an attitude of going out there and getting it done without any equivocation. He was just fabulous. A great human being, a champion of the people – the greatest of all time.”
Whilst Ali was gifted with outstanding boxing ability, ‘The Greatest’ is often commended for the influence that he had on the sport and the way he changed the landscape of boxing during his career.
He became the world heavyweight champion on three occasions where he defeated the likes of Foreman, Joe Frazier and Sonny Liston, proving himself to be arguably the greatest fighter to have ever laced up a pair of gloves.
