Talk of a sensational return to the ring for former world champion Wladimir Klitschko fails to go away.
Klitschko is a legend of the sport having been a long-ruling world heavyweight champion until 2015 when he was beaten on points by Tyson Fury.
After the win, Fury took time away from the sport and failed to honour a rematch, so Klitschko returned to the ring once more to take on Anthony Joshua for two world titles back in 2017. In what was a historic battle for the ages, it was Joshua who came out as the winner to unify the division after a KO in the late rounds.
Since then, the power-punching knockout artist known as ‘Dr Steelhammer’ has remained retired. However, the man who stopped 53 of his 65 opponents over a decorated career recently appeared ringside to see his Ukrainian countryman Oleksandr Usyk beat Fury for a second time to retain his status as the best heavyweight on the planet.
Since then, there has been talk he might be on the verge of a shocking comeback. As such, speaking to BoxNation, current IBF champion and former Usyk victim Daniel Dubois was asked if he would defend his belt against Klitschko were he to return.
“Yeah, whoever wants it. Wladimir, whatever makes the most sense with the team and all that but yeah, Wladimir Klitschko, the legend Wladimir Klitschko, that would be something else wouldn’t it.”
It still seems rather unlikely this fight will happen, with Dubois more intent on beating Joseph Parker on February 22 and having a second shot at Usyk to become the undisputed champion.
