Undefeated KO Artist Who Sparred Crawford Makes Canelo Fight Prediction: “He Can’t Take The Power”

An unbeaten super-welterweight contender has weighed in on the impending ‘super-fight’ between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

The stage is set for Mexican superstar Canelo to make the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’ Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Boxing fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the intriguing clash between the pound-for-pound stars, with many even considering it to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport.

One man that has been up close and personal with ‘Bud’ Crawford in the past is unbeaten Mexican-American contender Fernando Vargas Jr, who has been a sparring partner of the 37-year-old from Omaha over the last few years.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Vargas admitted that whilst he believes Crawford is ‘crafty and strong’, he expects Canelo to come on strong during the later rounds and use his power to stop the unbeaten American.

“Terence Crawford, I’ve had the opportunity to spar with him, very crafty in there. It went good, it went real good. I went in there, I believe he was getting ready for Errol Spence and I went over there to the Apex and we sparred and he’s really strong, I was walking around like about 75 or 80 and I thought I was going to be able to just move him around.

“He’s one of those skinny strong guys so he knows how to definitely use his strength but we’re going to see. I think he’ll have early success with Canelo maybe snapping his head back. You see Canelo picking up fighters when he gets frustrated but I think Canelo will end up putting his punches together and I think that power will just be too much.

“I don’t think Terence Crawford would withstand Canelo’s best shot but that’s what makes it a good fight.”

Vargas himself is in the co-main event of the Canelo vs. Crawford event on Saturday, as he takes on fellow undefeated fighter Callum Walsh.
