Sergey Kovalev believes there is just one fighter that could cause problems for pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford.

‘Bud’ Crawford entered the boxing history books yet again earlier this month as he defeated Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The 37-year-old from Omaha was declared the winner via unanimous decision in what was a historic moment for the sport, as the three judges at ringside scored the bout 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 all in favour of the five-division world champion.

With rumours already circulating about what could be next for Crawford, former unified light-heavyweight world champion Kovalev, who himself fought Canelo in 2019, believes there is just one man that could pose a threat to the pound-for-pound great.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Kovalev hinted that ‘Bud’ should consider facing former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol next, admitting that while there may be problems, he could see Crawford winning.

“Yes it can deliver the problems for Crawford [with] Dmitry’s style, but Crawford showed in the last fight that he can adapt for any weight, any opponent, but it is more interesting to see this fight.”

Bivol achieved his career-long dream of capturing the undisputed light-heavyweight championship earlier this year as he defeated countryman Artur Beterbiev via majority decision in their rematch on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 34-year-old is expected to make his long-awaited return to the ring during the early stages of 2026, although he is currently recovering from an operation that he had on his back earlier in the summer.
