Larry Holmes Has No Doubt Who Wins Prime Mike Tyson vs George Foreman: “It Wouldn’t Last A Round”

Mike Tyson and George Foreman are two of the best heavyweights to grace the sport.

Tyson ruled the heavyweight division in the late 80s and early 90s, becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion in history at 20 years, 4 months and 22 days.

Foreman first became world champion in 1973 and was involved in iconic events like the Rumble in the Jungle. He retired in 1977, but returned a decade later, and became the oldest heavyweight champion ever when he held the belt again aged 46 years and 169 days.

A fight between Tyson and Foreman was once speculated to take place in the late 90s, but it wasn’t to be, and has remained a hot debate ever since over who would have come out on top.

Fellow boxing legend Larry Holmes has offered his prediction for the bout, having shared the ring with ‘Iron Mike’ back in 1988 and suffering a fourth round knockout loss.

Despite experiencing first hand the power of Tyson, Holmes told Sky Sports that he would not have coped with Foreman, or other heavyweights from that era.

“I ain’t knocking Mike Tyson, but no.. George Forman would win in two seconds, he hit too hard.

Anybody come at George Foreman you got to box like I did, or Ali did, you can’t stay there and take those punches. They take your head off. Bam, bam, it’s like the kitchen sink he’s hitting you with.”

Tyson returns to action in a controversial bout with Jake Paul on Friday 15 August, and Holmes has also given his prediction for that fight.
