Heavyweight legend Larry Holmes has weighed in with his prediction ahead of the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
The fight between the former heavyweight champion and the YouTuber-turned-boxer was originally scheduled to take place in July, but Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up and was forced to postpone the bout until November 15.
“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.
My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
Holmes, who during his incredible 75 fight career faced the likes of Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton and of course Muhammad Ali, lost to Tyson back in 1988 when challenging for the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles.
Speaking to USA Today on the match-up Holmes is betting on his old-foe to get the victory.
“I’ll bet a quarter on Mike Tyson”.
Instead of waiting for the end of the year to fight Paul decided to stay active and take on former UFC fighter and bare knuckle champion Mike Perry on the original date. Paul stopped his man in the fifth round and after the fight Perry praised the brash American’s technique and, unlike Holmes, believes he will beat ‘Iron’ Mike come fight night.
