The last opponent of Terence Crawford, Israil Madrimov, assessed the punching power of the pound-for-pound star.
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska will challenge undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on Saturday September 13 in Las Vegas, pending an official announcement.
‘Bud’ Crawford has already achieved undisputed status in the super-lightweight and welterweight divisions since his debut back in 2008, as well as capturing world titles at lightweight and super-welterweight.
He made his super-welter debut last August when he dethroned Israil Madrimov of the WBA world title in Los Angeles, albeit in an underwhelming twelve round contest which many felt was a closer than the scorecards suggested.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Uzbek star Madrimov shared an honest verdict on the punching power of ‘Bud’, who handed him the first defeat of his professional career.
“There’s no doubt on his power, there’s no doubt on his skills. I knew that and that’s why this fight was so close.”
However, following this assessment up in a separate interview with Mill City Boxing, Madrimov went on to state that the power of Crawford was only ‘regular’.
“It’s regular power because he’s a [smaller] weight going up. It’s normal, you know, his punch.”
Victory over the Mexican would write ‘Bud’s name into the boxing history books once again, but the task at hand is unquestionably the toughest of the American superstar’s glittering professional career.
