Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson are two of the names that regularly come up when discussing the best fighter of all time.
Ali is arguably the biggest name in the history of the sport, and earned his moniker of ‘The Greatest’ after claiming wins over fellow legends such as George Foreman and Joe Frazier.
He became a three-time world heavyweight champion before hanging up the gloves in 1981.
As for Robinson, the Georgia native is often regarded as being the best fighter to have ever graced the sport, proving his credentials throughout the course of his 201 fight career that spanned over 25 years.
He became a 6-time world champion during this time, capturing the world middleweight title five times within a 9-year period and it is clear to see why fans may view he or Ali as the greatest of all time.
One man disagrees with that sentiment though, after a resurfaced interview with Floyd Mayweather Jr saw the American declare himself as the best.
“I’m the best ever. I broke everybody’s record. Tell me whose record I haven’t broke? It’s not bragging or boasting, the proof is in the pudding. Men lie, women lie, the numbers don’t lie.”
Mayweather was then asked if he specifically views himself as better than the likes of Ali and Robinson.
“I respect them, I take my hat off to them, but you think I gave this sport my whole life to say there’s another fighter better than me? Absolutely not.”
Mayweather ended his career with a perfect 50-0 record, winning world titles in five divisions and defeating fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez during that time.
He competed professionally for the last time in 2017 but has been linked to a comeback a number of times over the years, including against a fellow legend who says ‘it wouldn’t be fair’ for him to take on Mayweather.
