Lennox Lewis has had a little behind-the-scenes access to Mike Tyson’s training camp ahead of his fight against Jake Paul.
Tyson and Paul are to step into the ring with one another on November 15 following a four-month postponement of their original fight date.
This controversial contest sees young and relatively inexperienced cruiserweight Paul taking on the legendary Hall of Fame and former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson across eight two-minute rounds live on Netflix.
Paul has had far better preparation as he continues to slowly but surely build up a record that has seen him deliver a number of early stoppages. Most recently it took him until the fifth round to get rid of his opponent, former UFC and bare-knuckle favourite Mike Perry, while Tyson has not fought for two years since an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr which itself came some 20 years after retiring off the back to two consecutive defeats.
Lewis has recently been able to see Tyson train for the fight and told The Schmo he feels he still has plenty to bring to the ring.
“I think it’s going to be a good fight. Mike Tyson what he does, he’s two dimensional, he’s going to come at you and try and knock you out.
Now you have to try and stay away from him and his power. I saw him working out the other day and he throws some good combinations. Those six-punch combinations, Paul has to make sure he’s not in the way of those punches cause Tyson’s a real fighter.
Tyson still has it, he can throw a punch, he can take a punch, so he’s doing something he’s used to.”
And in separate interview with FX 29 Philadelphia Lewis was sure ‘Iron’ Mike would come out the victor.
“Mike Tyson is going to win. Mike Tyson is not that old. Don’t take him too softly.”
Lewis famously beat Tyson himself in 2002 and until May when Oleksandr Usyk took the mantle, he was the last undisputed heavyweight champion.
