Lennox Lewis Delivers Harsh Reality To Former Heavyweight Champion: “The Wise Move Is To Retire”

Lennox Lewis is one of the few heavyweights to leave the sport at the right time.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion retired back in 2003 after stopping Vitali Klitschko due to severe cuts at the end of the sixth round.

Lewis remains one of the very few fighters to hang up the gloves having defeated every man he ever faced. Two of those wins came in rematches after suffering shock knockout defeats to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman. He also secured a unanimous decision over Evander Holyfield eight months after a controversial draw in their first encounter.

During his 44 fight career Lewis also had wins over the likes of Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno and Shannon Briggs.

Lewis has now called for one former WBC heavyweight champion to call it a day. Deontay Wilder is coming off of back-to-back losses and has only won one of his last five bouts.

Last time out he suffered a vicious knockout at the hands of heavy hitting Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang and that result prompted Lewis to take to social media to encourage ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to retire.

“The Bronze Bomber told us before the fight that he would retire if he didn’t win. I think that’s a wise decision.

He’s more than carved out a life in which he can take care of his daughter, so before he suffers any more damage, it’s best to leave the game with your faculties intact because there’s a lot more life to live after boxing.”

Contrary to Lewis’ advice, Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has confirmed that his man will continue fighting and fans can expect to see him back in the ring next year.
