Lennox Lewis is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and, as such, knows a thing or two about big fights.
Lewis was involved in some of the highest grossing pay-per-view events in the sport, facing Evander Holyfield twice and then going on to fight Mike Tyson in one of the biggest heavyweight contests in decades.
In the current crop of talent, perhaps the biggest fight to be made is Terence Crawford versus Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. ‘Bud’ has called for the clash since he dispatched of welterweight rival Errol Spence Jr last year and, with Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh prepared to bankroll it, there’s every chance of it happening.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV about the possible match-up, Lewis was full of praise for Crawford.
“Let me tell you about Terence Crawford, that man is Kung Fu. You know, when you watch a martial arts movie, you know, you think of him, he’s just full with his style, great with his style. He’s got power, he’s got poise, he’s got speed, he’s got movement, he’s got the full package and no wonder he’s undisputed, double undisputed that’s quite remarkable.”
The former undisputed heavyweight champion believes the American is capable of stepping up three weight divisions and beating the 168lbs ruler, but only if he uses his jab.
“We got to bow to him at that point [if he beats Canelo]. Can he do it? It’s a possibility. There is a way to beat him but a lot of people haven’t figured it out yet. They got to use their jab, if they use the Lennox Lewis Jab then they would win.
I know every great heavyweight had a jab. Even the lighter weights, they’re not using the jabs. They’re forgetting that the jab is the main weapon of a fighter. The first weapon of a fighter is a jab, and after that, it’s a right-hand hook, uppercut. But first, you gotta establish your jab.”
