In just a matter of weeks, Mike Tyson controversially returns to the ring to face Jake Paul.
The 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-fighter has made a brash entrance into the sport taking on mostly retired UFC fighters. He has one loss on his record to Tommy Fury and will now face the youngest ever heavyweight champion in two-minute rounds with 14 ounce gloves.
It was 38 years ago Tyson won that first championship. He has been retired since 2005 after suffering back-to-back losses and has been advised by many in the sport that this event is not a good move.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lennox Lewis – who knocked ‘Iron’ Mike out in 2002 – was asked for his initial thoughts when the bout was first announced.
“I was thinking that Jake Paul was gonna be in trouble because Mike Tyson knows how to throw great body punches, great head shots. We just have to see if he’s gonna do them in the ring. I’m hoping that he’ll do that.”
On whether or not his former opponent can find form at 58-years-old, ‘The Lion’ said yes.
“It’s a task. It’s hard to box when you’re that old, moving around the ring, throwing punches, getting punches thrown at you. But I think he can handle it.”
Finally, he was asked how he thinks the eight-rounder will play out.
“Mike Tyson just kind of cutting off the ring. Throwing body and head blows when he can catch up to Jake Paul. I’m sure Jake Paul will be moving fast, moving around the ring. He’s not gonna want to stand there and get hit by Mike Tyson … I’ll be there. It’s gonna be exciting.”
The fight takes place on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium, Texas. It will be streamed live on Netflix and preceded by a three-part series.
