Lennox Lewis Reveals The ‘Big Mistake’ Tyson Fury Made In First Oleksandr Usyk Fight

Lennox Lewis remains a keen boxing observer and thinks he spotted a mistake made by Tyson Fury in the undisputed contest against Oleksandr Usyk back in May.

Before the Ukrainian, Lewis was the last man in the heavyweight division to hold all of the major belts at the same time having defeated Evander Holyfield for them in their rematch in 1999.

His route to the top was not without its setbacks as he was twice knocked out underdogs, but both times managed to avenge those defeats with rematch wins of his own.

Fury now finds himself in camp and aiming to bounce back from his first-ever loss after being on the wrong end of a close split decision to Usyk. The standout round was the ninth in which he took a big left hand and was given a standing eight count.

He explained it away as having too much fun in the ring and vowed to be more dialled in the second time around next month.

Ahead of that, Lewis has told BoxNation about the big mistake Fury made in the early rounds of the first contest.

“I think he moved too much in the first couple of rounds where he should have won those rounds. I like him with a little more weight, throwing that jab more, not leaning back as much. Heavyweights now they lean back like that, that’s a big mistake.”

He was then asked how he should approach the fighter overall, and Lewis suggested using his size more effectively.

“Tyson is 6’9, he should use every part of that when he can. I always say the bigger guy wins, but you gotta use what God gave you.”

Fury – Usyk 2 takes place on December 21 in Saudi Arabia.
