Lennox Lewis is down as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, but has praised an old foe saying he is a complete ‘one-off’ and ‘another level’.
Lewis is a three-time heavyweight champion, two time undisputed and one of the only fighters to retire having beat every man he ever faced. He avenged his only losses against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman and defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch after a controversial draw first time out.
Lewis’ resume stacks up against the best, facing the likes of Holyfield, Rahman, Vitali Klitschko, Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson before hanging up the gloves in 2003.
And it’s ‘Iron’ Mike that ‘The Lion’ has single out for special praise.
The 57-year-old was scheduled to return to the ring to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a professional bout on July 22, but after suffering a medical incident last week that fight has now been postponed with a new date yet to be announced.
Speaking to Boxing King Media about the return to the ring of Tyson, Lewis said he is a ‘one-off’ inside and outside the ring.
“Mike Tyson is a one off. You know he can do so many different things, I was surprised to see him in a movie and he actually did a great job, he could be a movie star as well. The is just another level to Mike Tyson.”
In an interview with Title Sports Network, Lewis couldn’t pick a winner for the clash but hinted that he would be interested at a shot at the 27-year-old in the future.
“I don’t know who will win, all I know is that Mike Tyson better save some of Jake Paul for me.”
Lewis defeated a past his best Tyson in 2002 by eighth round knockout in what was one of the biggest heavyweight fights of all time.
