Lennox Lewis has weighed in on the potential rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.

The 38-year-old Ukrainian clashed with Dubois in August 2023 in a defence of his unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.

The bout itself was steeped in controversy after the Brit floored Usyk with a body shot in the fifth round, only for the punch to be ruled a low-blow upon closer inspection.

The Ukrainian superstar went on to stop Dubois in the ninth round to retain his heavyweight titles in Wroclaw, Poland.

Following Usyk’s second consecutive victory over Tyson Fury on December 21, Dubois stormed the ring to demand a rematch against the unified heavyweight champion.

The 27-year-old was elevated to IBF heavyweight champion last year after Usyk vacated the title, where he went on to make the first defence of his crown with an explosive fifth round knockout win over Anthony Joshua.

Speaking to BoxNation, Lewis summed up Dubois’ chances of being victorious in a potential rematch against Usyk.

“He fares well. He’s pretty positive right now and the next goal is he wants to be undisputed champion.”

Dubois returns to the ring on February 22 as he defends his heavyweight crown against Joseph Parker on the undercard of the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As for Usyk, it was confirmed earlier this year that the Ukrainian icon would be continuing with his glittering professional career after it was speculated that he could walk away from the sport after conquering the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions.

Although an opponent and fight date is yet to be confirmed, the 38-year-old is expected to lace the gloves up once again in 2025.
