Lennox Lewis fought Evander Holyfield and has now spoken about how ‘Real Deal’ would have got on against Oleksandr Usyk,
Lewis was the last undisputed heavyweight ruler before Usyk came along and completed the feat in May 2024 when he defeated Tyson Fury, he then repeated it again this year, with his second victory over Daniel Dubois.
‘The Lion’ put himself in the history book when he unified all four major belts after defeating Holyfield back in 1999, and Holyfield himself was a former undisputed cruiserweight champion who moved up to the banner division to collect the same honours in the early 1990s.
Speaking to Boxing News, Lewis was asked how Holyfield and Usyk would have looked had both men fought in their prime.
“Both of them have unique boxing ability. Oleksandr Usyk has that movement, has that aspect where he’s there and he’s very elusive. Plus, you don’t think he’s got power but he does have power and that would be one of the greatest match-ups in the world, putting Holyfield against Usyk.
They both have good advantages, both have good defences, both have good movement, both in the same weight class in the sense that they’re cruiserweights coming up. It would be a great fight.”
Usyk is coming close to the end of his career and had been mandated to fight the WBO’s Joseph Parker next, but has claimed an injury has prevented him from entering negotiations, so Parker is instead fighting Fabio Wardley in October, with the winner being first in line for a shot at the belts.
