Lennox Lewis Has Made His Mind Up On Whether Anthony Joshua Should Retire After Daniel Dubois KO

Daniel Dubois shocked the world and retained his IBF world title when he knocked Anthony Joshua out in the fifth round in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois went into to the fight as the heavy underdog but pressed the action from the opening bell and landed a clean right hand near the end of the first round that sent Joshua to the canvas.

AJ never fully recovered and after a further two knockdowns Dubois secured a famous victory in the fifth round when he caught Joshua with another right hand, having been under pressure himself for the first time in the contest.

Speaking to Box Nation, former undisputed heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis gave his reaction to Dubois’ performance.

“I was very impressed with the way how he came out into the fight, he was positive he was focused, he was ready, he knew he wanted to go in there and do damage. He said he’s the king and he’s the king right now, champion. Great fight, really impressed, he did the work, congratulations to the champ.”

On whether the fight could have been stopped earlier, Lewis said the referee was right to let AJ continue.

“I always say you’ve got to give the guy a chance and Anthony Joshua got a lot of chances out there but he got hurt really bad with the first punch and never really recovered.”

Lewis then gave his thoughts on potential retirement for Joshua – insisting it’s ‘not the end’ for the former champion.

“I don’t think it’s the end, nobody wants to retire on a loss so he may come back.”

‘The Lion’ believes Dubois is now a real problem for the winner of the Fury-Usyk rematch in December

I think he fares well [against them], he’s positive right now and next goal is to be undisputed champ.

Eddie Hearn insisted that his man has a rematch clause and that he expects Joshua to activate it next.
