Lennox Lewis Says He Would Knock Current Heavyweight Out Just Like He Did Frank Bruno

Lennox Lewis is considered one of the greatest heavyweights the sport of boxing has ever seen.

An Olympic Gold Medalist before turning over to the paid ranks, he went 25 fights undefeated – 22 of them coming inside the distance – before his first loss.

With wins over Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Ray Mercer and Frank Bruno, ‘The Lion’ knows what it’s like to face the best of an era – but how would he fare in the present day?

Asked in an interview with The Stomping Ground how a fight would play out against Tyson Fury, Lewis was confident in his answer.

“I believe I’m stronger than him. I think it would go like the Bruno fight. When I look at the Frank Bruno fight, me and him, we were trying to knock each other out. There were a couple punches that missed me and there were a couple punches that missed Frank, and then there was that one punch that hit him right on the button. That was it.”

1993’s ‘Battle ff Britain’ featured Lewis and Bruno with the latter in his third attempt at a world title. Lewis would keep ahold of the WBC belt via seventh round stoppage.

Lennox is of course well know for avenging two losses on his record, first to Oliver McCall and then Hasim Rahman. It’s something Fury will have to do this December when he rematches Oleksandr Usyk

The Ukrainian became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lewis in May. Having since relinquished one belt, he will put three on the line for his second fight with ‘The Gypsy King.’

After the first fight on social media, Lewis unsurprisingly backed Fury to bounce back.

“Fury will learn from this and he’ll be back! Losing is also part of the game, it’s how you respond to a loss that makes all the difference.”

The pair face off on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
