Lennox Lewis knows what it’s like to be in a ring with Mike Tyson.
Tyson retired from the sport three fights later but will return for his first professional fight in nearly twenty years when he takes on YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul this week.
In an interview with The Schmo about Tyson’s return, Lewis admitted he had been watching his training clips and believes his former foe ‘still has it’.
“I think it’s going to be a good fight. Mike Tyson what he does, he’s two dimensional, he’s going to come at you and try and knock you out.
Now you have to try and stay away from him and his power. I saw him working out the other day and he throws some good combinations. Those six-punch combinations, Paul has to make sure he’s not in the way of those punches cause Tyson’s a real fighter.
Tyson still has it, he can throw a punch, he can take a punch, so he’s doing something he’s used to.”
Speaking with FOX 29 Lewis went one step further and made a confident four word statement about Tyson’s chances against a man over thirty years his junior.
“Mike Tyson’s gonna win.”
Lewis believes experience and power will trump youth come fight night.
“Mike Tyson’s not that old. Don’t take him too softly. We’re one year apart … You can fight somebody like that and do well, because the person you’re fighting is not a true fighter and there’s a hundred things that you’ve forgotten that he’s learning.
[The age] will be a little bit of a determining factor if the fight goes on too long, but if they get close and Mike Tyson comes with his ten second combination, if one of those punches catches [Paul] he’s definitely gonna go down.”
Paul vs Tyson takes place at the AT&T stadium on November 15 and will be streamed live on Netflix.
