Three-time world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has weighed in on the exhibition match-up between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Tyson and Mayweather have agreed to face each other next and both have released posters across their social media channels announcing the fight for sometime next year.
Tyson made a sensational return to the ring after a near 20-year hiatus last November, suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the conclusion of their 8-round showdown at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
As for Mayweather, the 48-year-old Michigan-native has not fought as a professional in over 8-years when he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor in their monumental crossover bout, going on to announce his retirement from the sport shortly after.
In an interview with Fight Hype, Lewis appeared to welcome a potential clash between former rival ‘Iron Mike’ and Mayweather, as he claims it would be a ‘great’ match-up but ‘is sure’ Mayweather wouldn’t enter a contest with someone who would try to knock him out.
“Listen, I think it’s just business. I think it’s, you know, it’s smart business, you got two great fighters with great social media so it’s a great match-up. I don’t take the fight that serious, I’m sure Floyd wouldn’t step in the ring with a man who is going to knock him out or try and hurt him.”
Since making his exit from the professional ranks, ‘Money’ Mayweather has returned to the ring on a number of occasions in exhibition contests, facing the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa and Aaron Chalmers.
His last ring appearance in August of 2024 when he shared the ring with John Gotti III in their second encounter after their first clash over one year prior ended in controversy.
