Lennox Lewis has made his pick for this era’s heavyweight battle of Britain between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Lewis was involved in his own all-English grudge match against Frank Bruno back in 1993 at the International Stadium in Cardiff, stopping his man in the seventh to retain his WBC World Heavyweight Title.
2025 now looks set to be the year that Fury and Joshua finally face off before both likely retiring in the near future. Both men have been relieved of their belts by generational great Oleksandr Usyk but, whilst the contest has lost some of its shine, there is still significant intrigue.
Should it be signed, Fury would enter the ring coming off his second points loss to Usyk. Joshua, however, faces a steeper path back to glory having been knocked out devastatingly by Daniel Dubois in his last outing.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, former undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis backed Fury based on the form factor.
“Listen, both of them pack a punch, I would say Fury would be leading the way on that one, he’s leading the way. It’s up to Anthony Joshua to prove everybody wrong right now, it was [a devastating loss to Dubois]. I got Fury.”
Joshua has said he is all in for the bout, which would sell out Wembley Stadium without issue. Fury remains in rest and recovery mode after his 12 round battle with Usyk, and the ball will lie in his court when he is ready to discuss his next move.
