Mike Tyson‘s comeback has ended in a defeat to Jake Paul.
‘Iron Mike’ was competing professionally for the first time since 2005 when he went up against Youtuber-turned-boxer Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
It was the first boxing event that was broadcast live on Netflix, and has been nearly a year in the making after it was initially announced way back in March.
It was set to take place in July, before an ulcer flare-up for Tyson meant it had to be postponed, with that only adding to the concerns of many over the 58-year-old returning to the ring.
‘Iron Mike’ had to wear a knee support doing the fight, and struggled to show any signs of the ferociousness that once made him the ‘Baddest Man On The Planet.’
He did manage to avoid getting stopped and went the entire distance though, with the three judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 in Paul’s favour.
Tyson’s past opponent and now friend Lennox Lewis was in attendance for the fight to support his former rival, after they had previously met back in 2002, with Lewis claiming the stoppage win.
Lewis was undisputed heavyweight king when he fought Tyson, and he needed just five words to sum up his thoughts on the bout with Paul when speaking to ESNews.
“Glad nobody got knocked out.”
Despite the loss and the difficult to watch performance, ‘Iron Mike’ has hinted that he may be open to fighting again, but pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford has quickly hit back at that suggestion with a damning assessment of how the contest with Paul played out.
