Lennox Lewis has seen it all when it comes to boxing and has now used all that experience to assess the current state of one former heavyweight champion.
Lewis is one of the best of his generation and, until Oleksandr Usyk repeated the feat last year, was the last undisputed champion in the banner division.
He fought and beat the likes of Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno and Vitali Klitschko and managed to avenge upset losses to Hashim Rahman and Oliver McCall with KO wins, which meant he ended up besting every man he ever faced before retiring after 44 contests in 2003.
He is still a keen observer of the sport and has happily given advice to many stars, young and old, including Deontay Wilder.
The American is at the end of his career and has one last shot to prove he still has what it takes when he fights Derek Chisora in April.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Lewis was asked whether he thought Wilder should still be fighting given that he has lost four times in his last five fights.
“It’s not down to me, I’m not the one that should feel that. He should ask that to himself. Has he got the fight left in him? He must have the fight left in him because he’s fighting. Although his manager and trainer are not there anymore, he’s got a new team. This is how he feels he needs to run his life and it’s his life.”
Wilder insists he wants to become world champion again. A victory against the always tough Chisora, who is also in his 40s and has had 49 fights, would go some way to helping him achieve that.
