Lennox Lewis Says 28 Year Old World Champion Is Unbeatable

Lennox Lewis has backed one world champion to beat any man put in front of him.

Lewis himself ended his career having beaten every fighter he ever faced in the ring and was the last undisputed heavyweight ruler before Oleksandr Usyk back in 2024. Two men did defeat him, but he avenged both in rematches.

Fast forward to today and one current world champion has won all 30 of his fights, 24 of them by way of knockout, and has held world championships in two different weight classes.

That man is David Benavidez, who next time out fights British former world title challenger Anthony Yarde.

Speaking to Froch on Fighting, former world champion Froch brought up Benavidez and Lewis was full of praise for ‘The Mexican Monster.’

“Benavidez, that’s my guy right there. He’s a serious contender.”

He was then asked if Mexican superstar Canelo was swerving a fight with the American.

“Definitely. The man’s a boogeyman in one sense. Who is out there to give him a good fight? I don’t see anybody out there to give him a good fight. He’s that great.”

Froch then suggests a fight with unified light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who was in possession of all four world titles before vacating the WBC belt that Benavidez holds.

“I’m sticking Benavidez on that one.”

Benavidez was strongly linked with Canelo for a while but no fight was ever agreed with arguments over purses and Canelo instead took a super fight with Terence Crawford back in summer, which he lost on points to leave him without any of his undisputed super-middleweight belts.
