Lennox Lewis was ringside to witness Terence Crawford’s victory over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.
Crawford was able to defeat Canelo at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion in the process.
It made ‘Bud’ a five-weight world champion along with the first ever male fighter to become a three-weight undisputed champion, after previously accomplishing that feat at both super-lightweight and welterweight.
Crawford claimed the win over Canelo by unanimous decision, after the three judges scored the contest 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 in his favour, though not everybody agreed with those cards.
Former undisputed heavyweight king Lewis was seemingly one of them, as he told Boxing King Media that he could only score a maximum of three rounds to Canelo.
“I say Canelo won about 3 rounds in that fight.
I was actually amazed at the way Terence Crawford moved and never got hit and threw combinations because that’s what you’re supposed to do, throw combinations. He wasn’t trying to knock out Canelo, but he definitely was throwing a lot of punches and a lot of combinations.”
Following the victory, speculation has already begun over what Crawford may potentially do next, with suggestions of dropping down to middleweight in an attempt to become a six-weight world champion, while the possibility of that being his final contest still not ruled out.
As for Canelo, the loss to ‘Bud’ was the third defeat of his career after also coming up short against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, and the Mexican superstar has announced exactly what he plans to do next.
