Lennox Lewis was ringside for Joseph Parker‘s victory over Martin Bakole and has now assessed his potential fight with Daniel Dubois.
Dubois is the IBF world champion and one of the most in-form men in the division. However, he fell ill with a virus very late in the day last week and was pulled from his title defence against Parker.
The New Zealander is another in-form fighter, coming off the back of good points wins over Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder in his last two outings, and so was keen to remain on the card.
That meant that Bakole was flown in from Congo to take the fight. Bakole is another man who is on a good run having beaten Carlos Takam and American prospect Jared Anderson in his last two contests.
However, it was too much for Bakole, and Parker stopped him inside two rounds.
Speaking to BoxNation, Lewis was asked whether he still wants to see Parker take on Dubois.
“I want to see that fight. I think it’s going to be a great fight.”
He was asked who would win were the two to meet.
“The best man, but right now Daniel Dubois is the top man right now, he’s the man holding the belt so Parker has to come good, but Parker has the ability to win as well.”
Parker will be keen to rearrange that fight with Dubois as he attempts to become a two-time world champion. After his recent showings in the ring against top level opponents, the former WBO belt holder very much deserves the opportunity. However, talk is that Dubois may instead take this opportunity to move straight into an undisputed bout with Oleksandr Usyk.
