Lennox Lewis Delivers Honest Verdict On Usyk vs Daniel Dubois Rematch

Lennox Lewis has been asked about Daniel Dubois‘s chances in a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Dubois has emerged as one of the stars of the heavyweight division in the last 12 months. He worked hard to do so with high-level fights in Saudi Arabia and London.

The first was a last-gasp TKO win over American Jarrell Miller, the second was a fine stoppage against tough contender Fillip Hrgovic in June, and the most impressive of them all was a destructive KO inside five rounds of Anthony Joshua, a former-two time world champion who failed in his bid to dethrone current IBF ruler Dubois.

The Brit was due to fight again in February but fell ill late in the day so had to pull himself out of the contest with Joseph Parker. Now back in training, he has stated his desire to either rematch Joshua or fight Parker, but would also like a rematch with unified champion Usyk and a chance at becoming undisputed heavyweight king.

The first time the pair met, Dubois had Usyk down with what was ruled to be a low blow, and then was stopped himself in the 9th round.

One man who knows all about gaining revenge in rematches is Lewis, having stopped both Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall in his second meetings against those men, having lost the first fights.

Talking to BoxNation, Lewis was asked how ‘DDD’ gets on with Usyk a second time.

“I think he fares well, he’s pretty positive right now and the next goal he wants is to be undisputed champ.”

Usyk is also keen on this fight as he wants to become the first man to ever be a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, but he has been ordered to face WBO mandatory challenger Parker, while Dubois could be ordered to defend his IBF strap against Derek Chisora.
