Lennox Lewis Names ‘The Next Coming’ Of The Heavyweights

Lennox Lewis has hailed who he thinks is a future star of heavyweight boxing.

Lewis is Britain’s last undisputed heavyweight champion and is still held in high regard by fans all over the world. Speaking recently to the media, he has praised the depth of British boxing talent in the wake of Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury all having been champions of the banner division in recent years.

However, Fury and Joshua are now in the autumn of their careers, and will hopefully have a legacy-defining fight before they retire for good, which means focus must soon turn to who might reign in future.

Lewis suggested to talkSPORT that his top tip for dominance in the years to come is Moses Itauma, who recently turned 21 years old.

“Itauma is the next coming. We’ve got a lot of heavyweights and great fighters coming out of Britain right now. Moses is definitely one of them.”

Itauma has enjoyed a flawless start to his professional career, racing to a 13 and 0 record and dismantling his early opposition with composure and power beyond his years.

So far he has stopped 11 of those men, nine inside the first two rounds, and claimed his biggest win in August when he faced his toughest test yet against fellow Brit Dillian Whyte, he ended it inside the opening two minutes.

Next up is Jermaine Franklin later this month, a tough American who is expected to take Itauma rounds, having lasted 12 with both Anthony Joshua and Whyte the last two times he came to fight on UK shores.
