Lennox Lewis has high praise for a current world champion that he thinks is unbeatable.
Lewis himself is a heavyweight great who became the undisputed king in 1999, having beaten the likes of Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Frank Bruno along the way.
He suffered two upset defeats in his career when he was stopped by both Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman, but Lewis avenged both with stoppage wins of his own before retiring in 2003.
The next man to be undisputed heavyweight champion after Lewis was Oleksandr Usyk, who has now achieved the feat twice, the most recent of those reigns beginning after stopping Daniel Dubois back in August.
Speaking to DAZN after the fight, the Hall of Famer expressed his view that Usyk is now unbeatable.
“I don’t see anyone in the division beating him right now.”
Despite that, he then outlined that Usyk’s WBO mandatory Joseph Parker more than deserves his shot.
“I think Joseph Parker has the best chance right now. I think they’ve been freezing Joseph Parker out. Joseph Parker needs that next fight, so get him in there. I don’t know why he hasn’t had it yet.”
Usyk claimed he had a back injury which was preventing him from entering into discussions with Parker about a fight, though a video surfaced recently that showed Usyk dancing, seemingly free from any pain, which prompted the WBO to ask for a full update on his condition with any relevant supporting medical evidence.
Meanwhile, Parker is staying busy and is set to defend his interim belt before the year is out, with Fabio Wardley reported to be the man in the opposite corner.
