Liam Smith has twice fought Chris Eubank Jr and has now shared his views on the upcoming fight with Conor Benn.
Smith fought Eubank back in 2023. The first fight came in January just months after Eubank had been scheduled to fight Benn, but a failed drug test for the latter meant that event was canned at the last minute.
The Brighton man had been through a serious weight cut to make that Benn fight and many think that left him drained when he fought Smith, who scored the knockout in the fourth round. It marked the first time Eubank had ever been down in his pro career, let alone stopped.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Smith – who is set to return to the ring this year – was asked if Benn can hurt Eubank despite the fact that he is the smaller man and will be moving up two weight classes from his natural welterweight.
“I told you all before, I never say never. Do you think Conor can’t knock Chris out? With them little gloves on, anyone can be knocked out. If Chris is not looking, anyone can be flattened. If he does it I won’t be like, ‘woah, Conor just knocked Chris out.’
And vice versa, Conor’s been down off journeymen. If Chris flattened Conor I won’t be like, ‘God, Eubank stopped Benn.’ They’ve both got frailties, both got vulnerabilities and both got strengths. I think it’ll be a good fight.”
