Liam Smith has weighed in on the second fight between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
Smith has twice shared the ring with Eubank. The first time back in early 2024 saw him become the first man to put the Brighton man down and then stop him. Six months later, they shared the ring again, but this time it was Eubank who got the stoppage victory.
The 35-year-old had his first fight with Benn in April of this year and used his natural size advantage and greater experience to secure a 12 round points win, though faced a gruelling recovery process in the hospital after struggling with the weight and the ferociousness of the contest.
Speaking to iFL TV, Smith gave his latest view on the grudge rematch, which takes place on November 15 back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I think it’s a closer fight this time round, I maybe edge a little bit towards Conor this time round, I didn’t last time, I thought the fight would probably pan out the way it did.”
He was then asked if Eubank can improve.
“No, I don’t think [Eubank can be better], and that’s why I’m bringing Conor into it. If Eubank’s better, he wins easier, cause I do think that was a very good Conor, probably the best Conor we’ve seen. You forget because he’s got a huge name, he hasn’t been in many big, competitive fights. I think that was a very good Conor and I think he will improve off that.”
The immediate future for the rematch winner looks bright, with Eubank Jr calling out the new undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford and Benn being offered a potential fight with new welterweight strap holder Lewis Crocker.
